The Environment and Stormwater Special Rate (ESSR) helps protect Warringah’s beautiful beaches, wonderful parks and fantastic areas of bushland. The ESSR is part of Warringah residents’ rates set aside specifically for environment and stormwater projects.

The funding provided by the ESSR supports a variety of important environmental works, including bushland and catchment management programs, stormwater works and environmental education.

The ESSR was introduced in 1996 following approval by the Minister for Local Government. It is used solely on a range of environmental programs to protect Warringah’s unique bush and beach environments. The ESSR is 6.9% of each residential ratepayer’s annual rates, or an average of $1 a week per household.

The ESSR currently funds a range of environmental projects including Council’s Friends of the Bush volunteer program, weed control and bush regeneration projects, Narrabeen Lagoon Restoration Works, flood plans and stormwater management.
