The King Parrot (Alisterus scapularis) is usually found in rainforests or wet sclerophyll forests. It forages in trees for seeds and fruit.
Male King Parrots have a red head while females have a completely green head and breast. Both sexes have a red belly and a green back, with green wings and a long green tail. King Parrots are normally found in pairs or family groups.
They lay their eggs at the bottom of a deep tree hollow. Often the entrance is high in the tree although the eggs are near to the ground.
