RIPPLE
At a time when Australia is in the grip of a ‘1 in 100 year drought’ water has never been more precious. While we are all working hard to be more water-wise we come to realise just how much we have taken this resource for granted. Residents of Sydney’s northern beaches have a strong cultural connection to water and Warringah Council is celebrating this with a new festival: “Ripple – A Celebration of Water in Warringah”.
The Ripple Festival is about remembering, protecting, treasuring and celebrating water in our lives. Council has developed a series of events, activities and projects from mid March to the end of May that draw on themes relating to water. We hope to support greater understanding and appreciation of the value of water in our community from an educational and cultural perspective. It will be an opportunity to reflect our own personal connections to our beautiful beaches, lagoons and creeks.
The festival will be launched on March 21st with a Hilltop to Headland talk in the Warringah Council Chambers from the CEO of the Australian Water Association, Chris Davis. Mr Davis will speak on the looming water crisis that is facing Australia today and the local challenges we face.
Highlights of the festival include:
TRESURED WATER COMMUNITY EVENT
