If you are buying, selling or giving away a dog or cat it must be microchipped regardless of its age before a change of ownership.

Microchipping and Registration - A Two-Step Process

Step 1 Microchipping & identification (Required by 12 weeks of age)

  • A vet or accredited implanter can microchip your pet
  • They, along with you, need to fill in a Permanent Identification form
  • The vet or implanter will forward the form for entering onto the NSW Companion Animals Register
  • You will be sent a Certificate of Identification and Lifetime Registration Form

Step 2 – Registration (Required by 6 months of age)

Send / Bring into Council

  • Completed Lifetime Registration Form
  • Copy of Permanent Identification
  • Any proof that may be required to claim a reduction in the fees (photocopies of a desexing certificate or pensioner card etc)

A Certificate of Registration will be posted out to you once it is processed.

Change of Address / Owner

If you change ownership of your pet it is the responsibility of the original or “old” owner to ensure the Change of Owner Form (PDF, 173KB) is signed and completed by both parties and submitted to Council within 14 days or penalties may apply.

If you change address please complete the Change of Address Form (PDF, 272KB). This should be done within 14 days of moving or penalties may apply. Any other change of details such as phone number should be done on the Change of Owner Form (PDF, 173KB)
